This week, Year 6 got the chance to roll up their sleeves and dive deep into the fascinating world of the heart with an exciting dissection session! Having spent the last few weeks studying the structure of the heart, the students were eager to see how the theory translated into reality.
Armed with gloves and scalpels, they eagerly investigated what the various parts looked like up close. From the right and left atrium to the right and left ventricle, the pupils had the opportunity to explore the intricate details of each section. They took a closer look at the aorta, the vena cava, and the pulmonary artery and vein, uncovering the vital roles these components play in our circulatory system.
It was a fantastic experience, filled with “oohs” and “aahs” as they made new discoveries together. Not only did they learn about the anatomy of the heart, but they also developed a deeper appreciation for the complexity of our bodies. Great fun was had by all, and it’s safe to say that this lesson will stick with them for quite some time! What a brilliant way to make science come alive!
